Downtown Menomonee Falls From Lepper Dam to Epilogue Books

Main Street and Appleton Avenue on foot: two cafes, a used bookshop, a yoga studio with a full calendar, the river parks and the Wednesday market.

Walk a few blocks of Main Street and Appleton Avenue near the Menomonee River and you have covered downtown Menomonee Falls: two cafes, a used bookshop, a yoga studio, a pizza-and-beer spot and the river parks. TMJ4 called it the village's historic downtown when its morning show spent a day here in November 2025.

It is small enough to walk end to end in an afternoon, and walking is the right way to do it, letting the river and the two streets set the route.

Where is downtown Menomonee Falls?

The cafes, bookshop and studios in this guide sit within about 0.2 miles of the middle of downtown, around the meeting of Main Street and Appleton Avenue.

The Menomonee Falls Downtown District keeps an office on Main Street and runs the area's event schedule and business directory.

At the river end, Mill Pond Park holds the Lepper Dam spillway, a gazebo, a brick plaza and a small amphitheater. Lime Kiln Park, with the falls and the old kilns, spans both sides of the river between Main Street and Arthur Avenue.

Walking Main Street, east to west

Main Street addresses follow the county grid, where the W number grows as you head west, so N88W16447 sits east of N88W16739. Read them that way and the street lays itself out.

At the east end, TMJ4 stopped at The Mill Building at N88W16447 Main Street. A short way west, Hop Yard Ale Works at N88W16521 Main Street took over the former Wisconsin on Tap sports bar, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported plans for wood-fired pizza, beer and wine, with live music.

The Art Lounge at N88W16567 Main Street is an art cafe with classes, gallery nights and live music, plus flatbread pizzas and cheesecake, according to Travel Wisconsin. Islands.com noted in October 2025 that it closes on Sundays and Mondays.

Olive Branch Boutique is next at N88W16598 Main Street, then the Downtown District office at N88W16606. Further west comes Epilogue Books at N88W16739.

TMJ4 put the count at more than 125 businesses around the area when it previewed Small Business Saturday in November 2025.

Coffee and lunch on Appleton Avenue and Main Street

Fiddleheads Coffee has its Menomonee Falls cafe at N88W16621 Appleton Avenue, and Travel Wisconsin describes the room as a mix of old and new, rustic historic features with a modern interior.

The company, a Thiensville small-batch roaster that first opened in 1996, said in January 2026 that it was joining FairWave, a group of specialty coffee brands, and that it runs 8 shops across the Milwaukee area.

Percolatte, about 0.2 miles up Appleton Avenue, sells coffee with what its own site calls a touch of nostalgia.

Its site shows 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the day's hours, so treat it as a morning and lunch stop and check before a late visit.

If coffee is the main event, the coffee shops in Menomonee Falls also include a library coffee bar and a veteran-owned coffee truck that serves pup cups. For a drink, TMJ4's tour also stopped at Hot House Tavern at N88W16631 Appleton Avenue.

Walking Appleton Avenue

Appleton Avenue carries the other half of downtown, starting with Fiddleheads at N88W16621 and Hot House Tavern at N88W16631. Just Kiln' Time at N88W16683 Appleton Avenue is a paint-your-own pottery studio.

Across into the N89 block sit Peace Yoga at N89W16800, Percolatte at N89W16811 and Cho's Martial Arts at N89W16863, all within about 0.1 miles of one another. That short run is where downtown does its mornings and its after-work classes.

Epilogue Books and the shops on Main Street

Epilogue Books at N88W16739 Main Street sells a mix of gently used books and a few new ones, with a nook for children, and its site says it was opened by Michelle.

The site lists it open Wednesday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on Saturday, and closed Sunday through Tuesday.

TMJ4's segment named two more downtown stops, Just Kiln' Time at N88W16683 Appleton Avenue and The Mill Building at N88W16447 Main Street. Lake Country Family Fun's guide to the village lists downtown shops including Bank of Flowers, Olive Branch Boutique, Robin's Nest, Chocolate Falls, Poppy & Thyme and Rustic Rehabs, so check which are open on the day you visit.

Islands.com, in October 2025, singled out Poppy & Thyme for its make-and-take bar, where you can mix your own perfume, candles or nail polish, and said groups under four do not need a reservation. The same piece describes The Art Lounge as a cafe and gallery with flatbread pizza, cheesecake, beer, wine and classes, closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Yoga and martial arts on Appleton Avenue

Peace Yoga Studio & Wellness Center at N89W16800 Appleton Avenue keeps a long calendar on its Local Eyes listing, with 35 classes and workshops in the last 90 days or still to come.

Many Friday evenings bring a restorative or sound session at 5:30 p.m., Saturdays carry longer breathwork workshops, and Yin, Restorative and QiGong run as 3-week series on weeknights and mornings.

About 0.1 miles west, Cho's Martial Arts at N89W16863 Appleton Avenue runs a class for 4 to 6 year olds, youth beginner and advanced classes and evening MMA training, according to the schedule on its listing.

The parks around downtown

The falls themselves are in Lime Kiln Park, a 19-acre park where a paved trail passes the Garwin Mace Lime Kilns, which operated in the late 19th century. The village's parks guide says the Lepper Dam spillway and the Mill Pond gazebo may be the most photographed spots in the village.

Islands.com, in October 2025, dated the first dam at Mill Pond to 1851, when it was built for a flour mill, and the current Lepper Dam to 1954. From Lime Kiln Park the Menomonee River Trail runs about 2.6 miles on into Rotary Park, so a coffee downtown can turn into a long riverside walk without getting back in the car.

Village Park, about 0.1 miles from the middle of downtown, has a performance stage, a great lawn, a splash pad and 2 free outdoor pickleball courts. Head west from here for the Bugline Trail, the county park and a full day out in Menomonee Falls.

Events in downtown Menomonee Falls

The Downtown District's site promotes a family Trick or Treat, when downtown businesses hand out candy from their sidewalks, and it also points to concerts at Village Park. Its event schedule has the dates.

The Menomonee Falls Farmers Market, listed on Garfield Drive, ran on Wednesday afternoons from June 3 to October 14 in 2026, from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday markets ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. between July 12 and September 13.

When to go

Wednesday to Saturday is the window if Epilogue Books is on your list, since it closes Sunday through Tuesday. Go in the morning for Percolatte, which shows 3 p.m. as its closing time, and keep the evening for a class at Peace Yoga or a drink on Appleton Avenue.

In summer, a Wednesday adds the market. Around Halloween, downtown businesses hand out candy from their sidewalks for the Trick or Treat; check the District's event schedule for the date.
