A very special meal which really couldn’t be faulted. Service from Hilton and the team was first class and the food was absolutely sublime. Great culinary theatrics without it being gimmicky. The charcuterie and bread course was so well done. As was the ever-present La Colombe tuna, as well as the other fish course.
My only complaint is that a large table was seemingly allowed to continuously play loud music / videos on their phones. I don’t want to dine is a quiet restaurant but at the same time some people don’t have any regard for other diners.

We visited in mid September for lunch. We chose lunch instead of dinner so that we could experience the magnificent surroundings and enjoyed a window table with views over the valley, and spent the morning prior to lunch visiting Kirstenbosch - Constantia is such a beautiful area. From start to finish service, ambience and the food were all of the highest level, a true gastronomic experience. We do a lot of fine dining and usually there are 1 or 2 hero dishes , but at La Colombe there were so many highlights. We had the Spring menu and loved the additional touches like the Sugarcane press, charcuterie board and the knife selection which added a fun element - the charcuterie and accompanying pates were super delicious and so nice to have fish and veggie options since the Missus is a pescatarian. The only dish I found underwhelming was the artichoke dessert but I have quite a sweet tooth and the childhood memories was right up my street and a great way to finish the meal. Great cocktails and wine list and all in all a 5* experience, I would rate it equivalent to a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Also incredible value for money, a similar quality restaurant in London would cost double. My only regret is that we didn’t book in at La Petite Colombe when we visited Franschoek, if we visit Cape Town again La Colombe will be at the very top of our list.

We visited La Colombe as a family of four, including our two teenage daughters. We came in with the highest expectations, and they were somehow completely exceeded!
While we’ve been to Michelin-level restaurants before, this was our first time sharing this kind of fine dining as a family. The staff was incredibly professional and kind, making us feel perfectly comfortable right away. They also took the time to clearly explain all the menu options.
We had the lunch tasting menu with the wine pairing. Every single dish was beautifully designed like a piece of art, and every bite tasted perfect. The wines were fantastic and matched the food wonderfully, and the flow and pace of the meal were just right.
The beautiful grounds and mountain views made the experience even more magical. The price is high, but it is more than fair for the amazing quality and overall experience. We cannot recommend it enough!

La Colombe Restaurant
If I could only have one fine dining experience in Cape Town, La Colombe would be my choice.
Consistently ranked among the best restaurants in Africa and regularly featured on international fine dining lists, it’s nestled in the beautiful Constantia wine valley, surrounded by lush greenery and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.
What impressed me first was the restaurant’s remarkable sense of completeness. From the tableware and interior design to the plating and the rhythm of the service, every detail feels thoughtfully curated. There is a strong artistic identity, yet nothing feels pretentious. The lighting, color palette, and spatial layout are all so well considered that simply sitting there is a pleasure. Even taking photos feels effortless because the space is naturally beautiful.
The kitchen, however, is what truly stood out.
Built on classical French techniques with subtle Asian influences, the food remains light, clean, and incredibly well balanced.
One thing I’ve noticed about many fine dining restaurants is that, toward the end of the tasting menu, the flavors often begin to blur together. Rich sauces, butter, and emulsions gradually overwhelm the palate, making each course feel less distinctive. That never happened here.
Every dish had its own identity. Even the spread served with the bread—something most people might overlook—showed remarkable depth and complexity. You could taste the careful layering of ingredients. More importantly, every component on the plate felt intentional. Nothing existed merely as decoration or filler.
What makes La Colombe exceptional is its restraint. Behind the technical precision is a surprising sense of lightness. Rather than adding more, the kitchen seems to focus on refining and simplifying until every element serves a purpose. That level of consistency and discipline is incredibly difficult to achieve.
The portions are thoughtfully sized as well. Having just recovered from several days of gastroenteritis, I appreciated that I could enjoy the entire tasting menu without ever feeling overwhelmed.
Before leaving, I found myself chatting with the manager, sharing how much I had enjoyed the experience. If I ever return to Cape Town, La Colombe will undoubtedly be on my list again.
This meal also changed my perception of South Africa’s dining scene. I arrived with modest expectations, but left genuinely impressed. The culinary standard here is far higher than I had anticipated, and La Colombe is proof that Cape Town deserves a place among the world’s great food destinations.

An absolutely outstanding dining experience. The presentation of each dish was incredibly impressive-easily some of the best I’ve ever seen.
Every course was beautifully executed, thoughtful, and memorable. The creativity and attention to detail truly set La Colombe apart.
It’s definitely worth a shoutout, which lives up to its reputation as one of South Africa’s finest restaurants. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a special and unforgettable meal in Cape Town.
