Rib Mountain State Park is well worth the trip, even if the timing isn’t quite lined up with peak fall foliage. The panoramic vistas overlooking Wausau and the Wisconsin River valley were still stunning. The highlight was definitely the scenic chairlift ride via Granite Peak—floating above the tree line added an extra element of fun and gave a perspective of the mountain you can’t get from the trail alone. It is a peaceful, scenic spot that delivers great scenery regardless of whether the colors are at their absolute prime.

We went in the spring, and the views were incredible. The hiking trails are super well maintained, so hiking was safe and easy. We also loved climbing the tower and viewing all the unique rock formations. I definitely want to come back in the fall!

Rugged hiking for my abilities, made up for by the geological features. Fortunately one can walk along the paved areas, and climb the tower. It's adjacent to Granite Peak ski area. Hikers beware of rough terrain, and rocks which can be very slippery. No benches or handrails in the areas that I tried.

The view from the top of the mountain is absolutely beautiful, and the place is worth spending at least two hours, so plan accordingly. The cable ride to the summit is the highlight of the experience. There are numerous scenic points of interest at the top, and the horizon view is especially stunning. The cable rides operate continuously, allowing you to go up and down multiple times. Be cautious, relax, and enjoy the experience.
