Granite Peak is in my opinion the best ski resort in the Midwest. If you're coming from the south, it's worth the extra drive, trust me! There are more trails than any other resort close to Chicago, and also they spend much longer with higher elevation as well. Fairly easy to get to, and staff is super friendly. Quite a few high-speed lifts to choose from. I'll be definitely going back in future seasons!

This is a great place to ski or snowboard in the midwest! I'm from Illinois in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and appreciated the variety of trails Granite Peak has, even though I was only skiing on greens and one blue. I visited the weekend of 3/13-315 and stayed at a hotel in Rothschild and intended to ski during the day on Sun 3/15, but I felt I wasn't ready to ski in deep snow yet, especially during the blizzard (I'm still pretty much a beginner). I decided to drive home that day but basically got stuck in the blizzard in Wautoma and spent the night there and drove home the next day when the roads and interstates were better. I returned last Saturday night 3/28 and finally used my day lift ticket this past Sunday 3/29 and have no regrets! I did have trouble booking a lesson shortly before I visited 3/13-3/15. I was told they were booked but they said O could try again in person. I just took my time trying to teach myself when I visited but next season I will make sure to book ahead of time as I could definitely use a lesson! Parking was free, convenient and plentiful. I liked the Chalet where you can order food and drinks and I liked the gift shops as well! Most of the staff were friendly, polite and helpful which always makes things better. I see on the trail map the eastern half of the mountain is closed after 4pm. I didn't go there when I went but it would be cool if all lifts and even trails are open in the evening if possible. I still had fun and look forward to coming back next season with friends exploring more difficult and advanced trails and terrain areas! Keep it up Granite Peak!

Granite Peak was such a fun surprise for a weekend ski trip. The snow was unbelievable—we couldn’t believe there was still great snow on the mountain after seeing almost no snow in town. The runs were very well groomed, and overall the snow quality was excellent. The lodge and restaurant were a highlight. There was live music, great service, a good bar and food, and an amazing vibe overall. The fire pits outside made it even better and gave it a really cozy après-ski feel. Keep in mind, this is not a huge resort, so don’t expect a ton of trails. However, everything is very well maintained, and the ski patrol was attentive and friendly, even checking in to see if anyone needed help. The main downside was the rental equipment. It felt quite old and worn out, and the quality wasn’t great. The snowboard boots, in particular, couldn’t be tightened properly, which made riding less comfortable. I would recommend renting equipment somewhere else or bringing your own if possible. Overall, it’s a great option for a weekend getaway—especially if you’re looking for a convenient, fun, and well-kept place to ski or snowboard.

This is the best place I've been to for Midwest skiing. Decent runs and a nice set up with different lifts. Black diamonds were fun to ride. It was a little icy but that's to be expected with some thawing and refreezing. I'd definitely come again. It was a bit pricey for a day pass me night pass seems very reasonable. I wish they offered a half day pass.

Absolutely had a blast..gave me mom and pop vibes with a great family fun atmosphere. Ski lessons were amazing!! My instructor was phenomenal he was patient and encouraging for a first time skier and we made it on the lift. A new experience but an amazing one!! Easy to rent, would recommend getting your ski pass in advance the lines were long for same day tickets. The little got a 5 hr lesson with lunch she was skiing independently a hour or so in. Will be back for sure!!!
