Germantown Restaurants: Relish, Bubs and a Farmstead Brewery

Old fashioneds on Main Street, Saturday cover bands, a smash-burger tavern, a farmstead brewery and where to find a Friday fish fry.

Germantown eats on two roads and one farm lane. Main Street has the supper club and the Irish pub, Mequon Road has the custard stand, the butcher and a smash-burger tavern out west, and a farmstead brewery sits on Pleasant View Drive about 1.7 miles northeast of Main Street. Here are the restaurants Germantown has to offer, grouped by the kind of night you want, from a supper club dinner to a Friday fish fry to a cone of custard.

A supper club on Main Street

If you want a sit-down dinner with a cocktail beforehand, Relish Supper Club on Main Street is Germantown's supper club.

Sponsored

Relish pours a whole list of old fashioneds, including a pineapple version and a brandy or bourbon relish version, which is the kind of menu detail that tells you this is a Wisconsin supper club. The room fits the part: a rectangular bar with TVs, then a dining room with woodwork, a fireplace and mounted animal heads on the walls.

An August 2026 Islands write-up singled out the walleye piccata and the steak au poivre, and the regular menu also runs to a Clubhouse burger and chicken cordon bleu. Travel Wisconsin tags it for fish fry and outdoor dining.

Its own site lists evening-only dinner hours, but that page was last updated in 2024, so call before you go. Relish holds Germantown's place among the supper clubs around Milwaukee, if you want to compare it with the old-guard rooms in the city.

The farmstead pizza, brewery and sausage maker

Old Germantown is the odd one out, a farm-themed family restaurant out on Pleasant View Drive rather than in town.

It describes itself as a farmstead pizza, brewery and sausage maker, and it does all three: house-made sausages, pizzas in a long list of combinations and its own beers, with tasting flights if you cannot pick. Islands pointed readers to its sausage and potato pancakes in 2026.

In warm weather there are seasonal outdoor patios with a rural setting.

It pitches itself as family dining, and the owners greet guests in person. Its site also keeps a calendar of classes and private events, so look there before a weekend visit in case the place is booked.

Pub nights and live bands

Back on Main Street, Bubs Irish Pub is where dinner turns into a night out.

Reviews on the pub's own site single out the Reuben rolls, the ribs and a Friday fish fry, and the pub has pool tables, darts and TVs for the game. On most Saturday nights there is a live band at 8:30pm, usually a cover or tribute act, from 80s glam to boy-band nights.

For parties, it rents out the Irish Festival Hall, a banquet hall with its own stage.

For the German side of Germantown, Von Rothenburg Bier Stube serves German food and beer with an outdoor biergarten and live music, according to the 2026 Islands piece. When it reopened under a new owner in 2013, BizTimes described it as a corner beer pub in the style of a German town center, with German beers on tap in liter and half-liter glasses. Bubs also appears among the music venues in Wisconsin for its weekend cover bands.

Smash burgers out on Mequon Road

About 3 miles west of Main Street, Bixenberg Tavern is a neighborhood tavern open since 2022.

The signature is the Bixenburger, a third-pound smash burger with your choice of cheese on a brioche bun, and there is a chicken doner kebab wrap with feta and tzatziki in naan for something different. The bar keeps about ten rotating Wisconsin craft taps, makes old fashioneds and serves house-made chips on the side.

Its site lists a Friday fish fry and trivia on the first and third Sunday of each month at 6pm, with the bar closed Monday and Tuesday; those details are undated, so check before you plan a night around them.

If you are staying at the hotels on Maple Road or Commerce Circle, Bixenberg is the closest sit-down spot, about 1.5 miles west. From the other Germantown hotels, down near County Line Road, Robert's Frozen Custard is the nearest of these at a little over 2 miles.

Bars in Germantown for a drink

For a drink without a full dinner, the choice depends on the mood. Bubs has several bars under one roof, from the main stage bar to a Smithwick's bar, so there is room to spread out on band nights. Bixenberg is a neighborhood tavern with Wisconsin craft taps, and Relish has its rectangular bar with TVs if you want an old fashioned and the game.

For beer made on site, Old Germantown pours its own brews, and for wine, Apple Works Winery opens its tasting room from Thursday to Sunday, according to its site. TripAdvisor's Germantown list adds a handful of bar-and-grills, including Big Sky Country Bar and Grill, Barley Pop Pub and KJ's Bar and Grill.

Takeout and carry-out

Not every night calls for a table. Robert's Frozen Custard takes orders online and through its app, with takeout and delivery, so a burger and a pint of custard can come back to the hotel. Bixenberg asks you to call ahead for carry-out and also lists DoorDash. For a picnic at Homestead Hollow, stock up at House of Home Made Sausage or at Sendik's Food Market, about half a mile southeast of Main Street.

Where to get a Friday fish fry in Germantown

Fish fry is easy to find here. Bixenberg lists a Friday fish fry, a review on Bubs' own site mentions its Friday fish fry, Robert's Frozen Custard has a beer-battered cod fish fry on its menu, and Relish is tagged for fish fry by Travel Wisconsin. At Robert's the cod also comes as a beer-battered fillet sandwich if you want it to go. Menus and prices change, so call ahead to confirm the fish and the hours.

Custard, coffee and the sausage counter

On Mequon Road, about half a mile south of Main Street, Robert's, for custard and burgers, is the stop for a cone. The menu runs from a Big Greek Burger to sweet potato fries, and the flavor of the day changes daily, with a flavor hotline at (262) 250-1683 if you want to check first.

For coffee, Kaffeehaus on Fond du Lac Avenue pours Stone Creek Coffee in an old schoolhouse from around 1874 that the owners bought in 2019 to save it from demolition, opening the café in 2021. The drinks list goes past lattes to a honey Boston latte, a Mexican spice mocha, a v60 pour-over and 64-ounce cold brew growler fills, with four-berry and mango smoothies for anyone not drinking coffee. There is also a Starbucks on Mequon Road for a quick cup.

To cook your own, House of Home Made Sausage on Mequon Road is an old-school butcher counter with maple breakfast sausage, Hungarian sausage and garlic brats, and the staff will let you sample before you buy.

More names on the list

Germantown has more places to eat than the ones above, and some are worth a look. PREC1NCT Tap and Table on Church Avenue is a New American kitchen that Travel Wisconsin describes as farm-to-table, with stone-fired pizzas, a seasonal menu and an open kitchen. TripAdvisor's current Germantown list also includes Ivee's at Main, Hung Hao and China Kitchen for Chinese, Matteo's Mexican Grill, Big Sky Country Bar and Grill, Buzdums Pub and Grill and Das Barrel Room, plus national chains.

If you have a free afternoon, pair a meal with a glass at Apple Works Winery, the orchard winery on Fond du Lac Avenue, which turns up among the wineries near Milwaukee.

For the rest of the day, the bell museum at Dheinsville and the dog park at Homestead Hollow are among the things to see in Germantown.
