We went for the restaurant week menu, overall a great experience. Dinner dragged quite long, song dishes were hit and miss, but we got a lot of extra courses which filled us! The best set menu was the meat one. Food was beautifully decorated and sustainable & local produce.

If you’re looking for excellent service, an elegant atmosphere and a dining experience you won’t soon forget, I would highly recommend dinner at De Tafel. We celebrated our anniversary here and had the most wonderful time, and left feeling more than satisfied.

We went here as part of the restaurant week. The service was amazing. The food was to die for. I cannot fault them on anything.

I’ve figured out my tell when food just hits the spot. I start feeling rightfully emotional throughout the courses, consistently - very hard to achieve. So far, only 3 South African restaurants have left me feeling like that & I’ve dined almost everywhere. The chef here is talented, creative & cares about what he touches (then serves to us). The 3 different menu options (Land & Air, Sea & Salt, & Field & Forest) celebrate nature in their own ways but flavours are entirely different, your palate won’t get bored with the bold flavours & oddly sounding pairings that actually work & are extremely sustainable to the environment. And it helps to be lucky enough to have the manager passionately introduce each course, he was superb, he gave me goosebumps as he talked through most of my dishes & answered the many questions I had; that added an extra special touch to my visit. I’m due a visit again to try the Sea & Salt menu & I know I won’t be disappointed.
A small issue is something the team doesn’t have control over due to the building’s structure, it can get moderately noisy when packed as it’s a small space - but that in itself sells the experience as a cosy, dynamic space. It depends on your preferences.
I had a great time, the chef knows his produce & how to enhance South African flavours very well, & the staff is wonderful. A most definitely must visit!

Situated in the Palm House Hotel sits this wonderful restaurant. We had dinner here a couple of nights ago and it was just the best experience. The staff was amazing, explaining every course to us with so much passion. The presentation was outstanding and the flavours were just out of this world. Price quality would be 11/10, it being a 5 course menu for R645 with a wine paring of R100 per glass (also possible per glass). The menu changes every season. We will definitely come back!
