Historic Cape Dutch winery and working farm

About

Babylonstoren Wine Estate is a historic Cape Dutch winery in Simondium, situated at the base of Simonsberg. Our working farm features expansive fruit and vegetable gardens alongside vineyards, on-site restaurants, a farm shop, and a contemporary hotel and spa. Guests can taste our estate wines, explore the botanical grounds, sample produce harvested directly for our restaurant menus, or tour our water buffalo facilities. We are open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Fantastic to spend half a day or full day here. The gardens are so well laid out and the restaurant very roomy. The platters are superb and great if you want to taste a few wines.

We thoroughly appreciated the authenticity of this working farm. The Water Buffalo cheese a rare treat. The chickens taking a sand bath, the cat napping on a log in the veggie garden.. Diverse variety in the fruit and veg gardens clearly harvested and used in the Restaurants where we had an exceptional lunch. We could easily have strolled around there or sat in the winter sun the whole day.. A well loved space..

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Babylonstoren continues to be one of my absolute favorite wineries to visit when I’m in the Cape Winelands. This time was especially memorable because we paired our wine tasting with a horseback riding experience through Cape Winelands Riding, which made for a day unlike any other. The property is absolutely stunning, the wines are fantastic, and we ordered one of their food boards to enjoy with our tasting—it was incredible and the perfect addition to the experience. There’s something so special about spending the day riding through the Estate and then settling in for great wine and food in such a beautiful setting. A must-visit for me every time I’m back in the Winelands.

Very nice place with plenty of activities (way more than other wine states around). The place is very clean and organized, includes museums and wine tasting. It was the nicest stop we made in the orange line. The only con was that we were charged ZAR 150 as an entrance fee and we were later informed that those who purchased the wine train tickets could get 80% off, but this was never mentioned until we were charged - again - during the wine tasting (“tram fee).

A magical place and a very interesting tour guided by Kobus who was exceptionally good! The estate is a large agricultural farm, run with impressive organization, almost like a well-coordinated factory where everything works in harmony. Highly recommended. (The hotel and restaurant also seem excellent, although we did not experience them.)
