Tastings and estate olive products on the R46

About

Kloovenburg Wine & Olive Estate is a winery in Riebeek-Kasteel along the R46. We host visitors for wine tastings alongside estate-produced olive products, with tasting flights that highlight varietals such as Syrah and Grenache blends. Our farm features an on-site tasting room, pizza, and an estate shop stocked with olive oils, olive jams, and olive-based body products. The grounds also include an outdoor family area equipped with paths, trampolines, and climbing boards.

Very enjoyable wine tasting with friends. Big variety of items to taste and a relaxed atmosphere.

We decided to travel up to Kloovenburg for a wine tasting before Sunday lunch at Mura, up the road at 8 Foot Village. It was a great decision, and we made a wise move by arriving at 11.30 am before things became busy. The tasting room is beautifully designed and is an homage to the rugby history and achievements of Pieter Steph du Toit, whose family owns the farm. We had booked a time slot, but were a bit surprised that there was no guided wine tasting - we were presented with the wines with the DIY labels on the glass stems. The staff were super helpful and able/willing to answer our questions. We enjoyed the wines immensely, particularly the Grenache/Garnacha/Peluda Spanish blend and the Syrah. The shop also stocks a beautiful range of olive-based products from olive jams to body butter to the olive oils themselves. Overall, it was a lovely experience, but it would have been enhanced by a more personal, tutored tasting because the wines really deserve to have their stories told.

It was nice. A very well thought out family park like theme where you can sit at a table and enjoy a pizza and wine or beer. They make their own pizza and there is a bar where you can buy mostly wine and limited brands of beer. There is paths that the kids can ride their bikes. The kids that were there enjoyed the area thoroughly the trampolines, the climbing boards the open area to run and scream as loud as they can. There is no visible security except for 2 cameras I saw on a tree. I was there with a party and we enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there.

Kloovenburg Wine & Olive Estate is situated at the entrance to the town of Riebeek-Kasteel and it's easy to find. The farm is designed to be entertainment for the whole family and you will find inside and outside seating, place for kids to play, a manicured garden, walking paths and a relaxed environment. Service is sharp and friendly and Claire is happy to answer any questions. The farm offers their signature wine and olive pairings for about R150 ($9) in an informal process that guides you through the flavours. But that's only part of the story: The food is excellent as well and good value for money. A generous burger sells for R170 ($10) and it's doubtful you will be able to finish as fast as a fast food serving. The estate is well-known for its excellent wines and premium olive oil. The farm belongs to the family of Springbok rugby player and world rugby player of the year 2019 and 2024 Pieter-Steph du Toit and it's wonderful to see his jersey up in the entrance foyer. The bathrooms are neat and clean and if you have the time and inclination, you can also book an overnight stay in the units on the estate. It's a great place to take a break and well worth a visit.
