A busy, energetic restaurant within The Peech boutique hotel, set in a relatively calm residential area of Johannesburg.
The service was a real highlight. Every team member we interacted with was kind, attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic. We left the menu selection to our waiter, who did an excellent job of choosing a varied selection of dishes and ordering just the right amount for our group.
The food was consistent, although nothing stood out as particularly memorable. The wine list is relatively short but thoughtfully put together, with some interesting smaller producers and prices that felt fair for the most part.
The main drawback was the acoustics. Even as a young person, I struggled to hear our waiter speaking from the opposite end of the table, as well as members of our own group. Having another group seated directly beside us may have contributed to the problem, so perhaps spacing larger parties further apart, where possible, would help.
Despite this, the warmth of the team, the lively atmosphere and the overall experience made for an enjoyable evening. With a little more attention to the dining room acoustics, Pot Luck Club could be a much more comfortable place to settle in and enjoy the food and wine.

Been on our bucket list for so long. It did not disappoint! From the moment we stepped in we were greeted with total awesomeness. The food out of this world, paired with complimentary wines. Each plate was lip smacking. I wish I had the gastronomic language to describe this experience. And the service just added to the experience. Wow! And thanks to Patience for the extra touch. Highly recommended.

The Pot Luck Club JHB was an experience from beginning to end. We visited for a birthday celebration, and even before arriving, the attention to detail stood out. The restaurant called ahead to confirm our attendance, ask whether we were celebrating a special occasion, and check for any dietary requirements—a small touch that immediately set the tone for the afternoon.
Upon arrival, our table was ready and waiting for us, and the service throughout our lunch was phenomenal. Our server, Simphiwe, and sommelier, Tinashe, were both exceptional, but truly, every member of staff who interacted with our table was warm, knowledgeable and attentive.
We opted for the prix fixe menu accompanied by the wine pairing, and it was a beautiful taste sensation from course to course. Each dish brought something different to the experience, while the carefully selected wines complemented and elevated the flavours beautifully. It felt less like simply having lunch and more like being taken on a culinary journey.
The intimate atmosphere tied everything together wonderfully—warm, beautiful and special without feeling overly formal. The Polaroid taken to commemorate the birthday was such a thoughtful finishing touch and a lovely keepsake from an already memorable afternoon.
From the food and wine to the impeccable service and attention to detail, The Pot Luck Club JHB delivered a genuinely beautiful dining experience.
An easy 11/10 from me and absolutely worth a visit.

Staying at the Peech our group of 10 (including two children under 13, 2 people with Gluten allergy and 2 others with Lactose allergy) we had our first vacation dinner in Africa at The Pot Luck Club
The service deserve 6/5 stars as Everyone was pleasant, happy incredibly helpful and Courteous
Our main servers were wonderful.
Mandela was able to describe all of the items in detail, and even though he set the expectations high, when the food was delivered, Mandela explained each dish as it was presented but in a slightly different way with other details so he never said the same thing twice.
The ones in our group that had multiple allergies was so impressed by Mandela as he was so patient explaining what substitutions could be made and how the taste of the dish may be affected.
Tinashe helped us navigate the wine list as we were unfamiliar with most of the items. Tinashe Was able to pair our group with a fantastic dry Cabernet and a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc that matched nicely with not only the chicken and seafood, but as well as all of the vegetable items.
Here comes the best part the food itself, also rated 6/5
This restaurant is served in Family Style. Each enough for two so for a table of 10 we ordered multiples, a group, probably tried almost every item on the menu and below is a list of our favourites
Asian Picked Salad - this dish included individually roasted then cooled vegetables, such as beets, hearts of palm, and baby carrots, the dressing was the perfect balance of Asian flavours was just enough citrus
Calamari - lately breaded and served in a wonderful slightly spicy cream sauce topped with basil
Fish - beautifully soft buns with fresh white fish in a light batter and a pickled onions elevated
Lamb Shank - talked with micro greens and served in a wonderfully flavoured broth
Beef Filet make sure to pair it with oh yea the mushrooms - this dish was served in a smoky sweet sauce, some of us found that the sauce overpowered the wonderful smoky flavour the meat had on its own
All of the dishes were described to perfection before ordering which gave us a certain expectation. When the food was presented, the dishes were described again with different details. But once we tried it, the descriptions didn’t know compared to the taste of the food.
Delicate full flavors, enhanced with subtle detail details
For example, the calamari alone was amazing with the cream sauce, but the basil leaves elevated this dish to the next level
I highly recommend The Pot Luck Club. From family dinners to celebrations or even date night

Outstanding meal - we had the winter prix fixe and it was divine. Especially loved the taco, the sliders, the calamari, the crayfish, the tandoori kingclip, the mushrooms and the desserts. The wine pairings were excellent. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely be back!
