Beautiful well looked after castle which is worth it for the view alone. You can only enter a few places (the chapel and family crypt and gardens included in base ticket) as it’s still a private residence but you can also do a tasting.
11th-century castle and wine estate with Renaissance gardens
Brolio Castle is a historic castle and wine estate in Gaiole in Chianti dating back to the 11th century. We offer guided tours of our Renaissance gardens and house a small museum on the grounds.

The place is absolutely gorgeous and it is a MUST visit if you are in Tuscany. As per the website, it says to go at any hour throughout the day, and so we did. We visited the castle, got a wonderful English Tour of the museum with Cristina (the museum portion can only be visited with a guide), and for the rest we used a map and an english written guide that we got at the reception. After we went to the Enoteca to try the wine, learn about the process (kudos to Federica!) and obviously take some home. The only observation would be that the website does not say that it is only in the morning that you get a tour of the winery section, and no tour is given in the afternoon. It was a shame not to be able to get a complete tour. Oh well, next time!
Brolio Castle, near Gaiole in Chianti, is a stunning attraction that is well worth a visit. The castle itself is huge, impeccably maintained, and truly impressive. The only drawback is that the admission ticket grants access only to the chapel and the gardens, not the castle interiors. That said, both are beautiful, and the gardens offer breathtaking views of the surrounding Chianti countryside. If you’re visiting Chianti, this is a place you shouldn’t miss !!!
We were not on a tour and went in September, weekday, midday, there was no one around, we had the grounds and the family Church to ourselves. It was very relaxing wandering the gardens and just imagining yourself a person of leisure circa 1700.
