Alsace estate producing Grand Cru wines since 1639

About

Famille HUGEL à Riquewihr is a historic winery in Riquewihr operating in the Alsace region since 1639. We manage a 30-hectare estate primarily classified as Grand Cru, cultivating noble Alsace grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir. We welcome visitors to our tasting room and offer guided tastings alongside our Three Terroirs vineyard tours. Our cellar produces dry wines, Vendanges Tardives, and Sélection de Grains Nobles, with bottles available for purchase on site.

We have tasted wines at wineries in Europe, US and Australia and our visit today was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The team were so engaging and friendly and we learned so much about the history and terroir of the wines and the region and fascinating stories. The wines we tasted were superb and we were never rushed but had time to enjoy a great tasting experience. We look forward to returning in 2039 for the great celebrations (though hopefully before then!). We have just enjoyed the Schoenbourg Riesling 2017 which we bought after the tasting and it is superb!

We had a wonderful experience at Famille Hugel during our visit to Alsace. The quality of the wines was excellent, and we truly enjoyed the tasting. A special thank you to the kind lady who assisted us—she was incredibly welcoming, patient, and helpful throughout our visit. She made us feel comfortable and gave us great recommendations. The young staff member who spoke English seemed less engaged with us, but it was a very busy day, so we completely understand that it was likely due to the workload. We were also pleasantly surprised when they included an extra bottle of wine as a gift with our purchase. It was a very thoughtful and generous gesture that we truly appreciated. Finally, we felt very lucky that Famille Hugel was open on Bastille Day, while many other wineries were closed. This gave us the opportunity to visit and discover their excellent wines. Thank you for your hospitality—we highly recommend a visit to anyone exploring the Alsace wine region.

We spent a very pleasant afternoon tasting a flight of wines - Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris & Gewurtztraminer. Loic, who guided us through the tasting was excellent at explaining the history, background & differences of the wines as well as the suitable food pairings. Would recommend.

We visited Hugel for a tasting and did the ‘three terroirs’ vineyard tour - the tour was a fun and unique way to understand the impact of the vineyards on the wines and our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about Hugel’s wines. The tasting afterwards was a great selection and well guided. Would highly recommend!

Recommended by a friend who had already been to this winery, the experience was truly exciting. Simon, with passion and great knowledge, led us on an extremely interesting journey through the various Alsatian wines. He certainly made our holiday in Alsace unforgettable and, more importantly, made us want to visit again. Simon also spoke Italian, which made it even easier to fully enjoy the tasting. We also purchased some wines, which were shipped in record time and arrived perfectly within four days.
